Think Your Battery Is Going Bad? Here’s How to Test It

Many people are surprised to hear that they can test a vehicle’s battery with nothing more than a multimeter or voltmeter. With one of those inexpensive devices, you will be able to tell if your battery is fully charged or ready to be replaced.

Before you test any part of the electrical system, you must first make sure that the vehicle is off and the ignition key is in the off position. You can then attach the multimeter’s or voltmeter’s positive lead to the battery’s positive terminal. Once the positive lead is in place, you can then attach the negative lead to the negative terminal. If the battery has between 12 and 12.4 volts while the vehicle is off, then you might need to have it replaced in the near future.

The team at Gillman Honda San Benito is ready to help you with all of your maintenance needs. We invite you to stop by our San Benito location today to have your vehicle's battery tested or replaced.
