What is Honda Sensing?

If you own a Honda vehicle, or even if you’re just car shopping for Honda, you’ve probably heard about Honda Sensing. But what is Honda Sensing and how does it work?

Honda Sensing is a suite of driver-assistive technologies designed to provide comprehensive safety. This concept seeks to have a collision-free society by protecting not only the driver and occupants, but pedestrians and other automobiles as well. Honda took that a step further by not only developing a system that protects in the case of a collision, but a system that actively works to prevent one.

What is the most common cause of automobile collisions? You may be surprised to know that many fatal road accidents are caused by cars straying from their lanes. Honda sensing was born from a desire to reduce that risk.

Here are a few of the assistive technologies included in the Honda Sensing suite:

Lane Departure Warning

Flashing and sounding alerts notify drivers when they begin drifting from detected lanes.

Lane Keeping Assist System

Steering adjusts to keep your vehicle centered if you begin to leave a lane without signalling.

Road Departure Mitigation

Rapid Vibrations bring attention if your vehicle is drifting too close to the side of the roadway at speeds of 45-90 mph without an activated steering wheel.

Adaptive Cruise Control

If someone moves into your lane then slows speed, ACC adjusts to maintain a set distance interval. This keeps you from having to brake then later reaccelerate to your desired cruising speed.

Forward Collision Warning

A small camera mounted atop the front windshield detects vehicles in front of you and alerts when you are at risk of a collision. Failure to act upon the audio and visual alerts will trigger the Collision Mitigation Braking System to automatically apply brake pressure.

Together these technologies are effective in making drivers more aware of their surroundings, encouraging them to react to avoid accidents, and mitigate the severity of potential collisions.
