This is almost unfair. The always-popular Honda Civic is now offering a five-door model for the first time in years, making for an extremely difficult decision: Hatchback or Sedan. (Not that we’re discounting the allure of the Coupe; we just didn’t want to overwhelm you.) Here are some key differences between the two.
The hatchback only offers a turbocharged engine (it’s an option for the sedan). The 1.5-liter engine ranges from 174 horsepower to 180 horsepower, depending on trim and transmission choices. Speaking of which – there’s now a six-speed manual transmission available to pair with the four-cylinder.
The hatchback boasts a lot more cargo space. Like, a LOT. With the rear seats up, it offers as much as 25.7 cubic feet; fold the seats down and that expands to a capacious 46.2 cubic feet. So if you tend to carry a lot of gear, there’s no question as to which is the better choice.
The hatchback offers two sport trims not available in the other models: Sport and Sport Touring. Each feature nuanced body kits and a power increase compared to other Civic models.
The sedan gives your passengers more room, especially leg room for those in the back seat. And, if budget is a major concern, the sedan is slightly less expensive at purchase time.
